Momentary art

There’s a yearly art award which is granted to works which only last for a short period of time called the Szpilman Award. One of the works in their previous year’s “best seven” picks really caught my one, “Space Drawing” by Sai Hua Kuan. It’s really momentary indeed.
There’s some really cool pieces on his website.

Everyone knows 3M’s classic Post-it notes. Some people don’t seem to think they are just boring office productivity tools, as there happens to be a lot of Post-it art going on. Some of it is very cool stuff and looks amazing like this one:

There’s also some Post-it note animations worth seeing on YouTube.
Cassette culture

Cassette tapes, we love them! There’s something so magical about them although probably lots of it is just pure nostalgia. In the digital age when no one actually uses cassettes, they are reappearing as design thingies all around us. And for people like us who happen to have a lot of old cassettes around just gathering dust (how could you throw such beautiful things with music on them away?), there’s now alternative uses for the D.I.Y minded:

The Dutch artist Theo Jansen is really amazing.
“Since 1990 I have been occupied creating new forms of life. I make skeletons that are able to walk on the wind, so they don’t have to eat.”
Weird huh? It cannot be described, you have to see for yourself. Here’s an old BMW ad featuring Mr. Jansen:

One of the coolest collaborations in the field of audio-visual installation art. They combine sound with visual arts in a very striking way in their work.
Check out the video of their “Every Man and Woman is a Star” installation – that’s what highly amplified fluorescent lights sound like! The lights reacted on the viewer’s position in the room:
If you have a chance to check out some of their exhibitions it’s highly recommended.
